TRIP TO LOVE. MEETING PATRICK HARVEY AND BEN PRITCHARD
(Please Excuse the shaky picture quality as I am currently dealing with a severe case of ManFlu)
So after tweeting them earlier in the week, myself kylebroadhurst, simonslatt and dan-hadley arranged to meet and Chat with Senior Creative at Love; Patrick Harvey and Digital Creative Ben Pritchard.
Patrick gave us a great talk, comparing being a design student at University to being a wrestler in the Royal Rumble, suggesting that you need a ‘variety of moves’ to stand out and above from the rest and that having special skills is important, but you still must be broad. He also suggested you need ‘Killer Entrance Music’ stating that to get somewhere in the industry you need to be different, showing clarity, lots of confidence and character. He told us that when designing our portfolio’s to show off our personality, suggesting the crazier the better and using the weird and wonderful, giving the example of ‘if your into ‘The History of Nuclear Weapons’ then have your portfolio ‘blow up’ on the last page.’

He also told us to ‘power through’ the difficult times and don’t let difficult situations or clients shit on you, and that one of the greatest skills you can possess is to be able to sell to a client, ‘own the floor’ and bring in your personality when pitching ideas to them to standout and be successful.
We also asked him about his inspirations and he suggested that his inspiration comes from his curiosity of real life situations, using the recent disappearance of  the Malaysia airlines flight as and example and that he’s always looking to everyday events to get inspiration for his work.
Overall it was great to meet with both Patrick and Ben, I feel we came away with some great information and both Patrick and Ben gave us useful advice and I think I speak for Myself, Dan, Kyle and Simon when I say how grateful we are to them for giving us time for a chat.

Idea

the main idea i had for the self promotion brief was aimed on using the theme of a bank account based on the fact I’m getting a design job not just because i love design but for the fact a job is all about money. my idea was to use a bank card in the form of a business card
